Pokémon-likes: A hearty list of Pokémon substitutes that people can enjoy in lieu of Sword and Shield

As we're all aware, Sword and Shield are just a short while away from being released worldwide. Of course, while we were all expecting a Pokemon title worthy of a home console, it's clear that just isn't the case at the moment. A combination of a National Dex cut, underwhelming animations, various features cut while few are actually improved, and the endless parade of Kanto Pokemon have soured people's expectations, especially for a title which is being marked up 50% more than its predecessors.
Some people have decided that enough is enough, and pledged to not support Game Freak this time - at least until they learn the error of their ways and make a Pokemon title that is worth their time and money. While I'm not sure if those people will keep their promise (remember that old picture where everyone was going to boycott Modern Warfare 2 and they just bought it anyway? Or how people hated how the new Disney live action remakes looked but they still went anyway?), it still is important to realize that Pokemon isn't the only game out there where you can catch, battle, and trade creatures.
With that in mind, I've compiled a list of some notable games which scratch that Pokemon itch. Keep in mind that obviously, there are some things that only Pokemon can replicate (nostalgia, for one thing), but I'll do my best to provide some alternate options. Oh, and I'm focusing on Switch games at the moment because I'm assuming that you already bought one in preparation for the next Pokemon - if you have a 3DS or PC, there are plenty of options available for you.
Obviously, this is only a small sampling of Pokemon-like titles out there, and that some of you are just too attached to your Pikachus and Charizards and Wooloos to care about some pale imitation of the real deal. However, I hope that at the very least, you can realize that there are other titles to jump onto if Pokemon continues to fall into a spiral of mediocrity. For those of you who do not have a Switch at the moment, you can use this list partially taken from 4chan's Pokemon board as a guide.

Game Alterations via save file.

So I was messing around with my save file and found some ways to altecheat the game with just some text editing.
I'd only use this if you've "beaten" the game or want to give yourself a little boost. What I'm saying is Stardew Valley is a great game to discover for yourself and I'd only recommend doing any of this if you REALLY want to.
NOTE: I recommend you make a backup of your save file before editing anything to make sure you don't completely ruin your save.
First off you'll want to find your stardew valley saves so if you are on Windows (which is the only way I've done this I don't know about Mac or Linux sorry) search "%appdata%" and hit enter. Then navigate to "StardewValley/saves" and there will be another folder with whatever your name is on your computer followed by a bunch of numbers. Open that. There should be a file that is the same name as the folder you just clicked into. You'll want to right click and click Edit with Notepad++ (if you have notepad++) or just open it in Notepad.
Now that you're in Notepad (++ or normal) press Ctrl+F to search for keywords. I highly reccomend using Notepad++ or getting it because it's much easier to see what you're looking at as all the text is in one line instead of filling up the entire text field.
Keywords to search for:
farmName - Change the name of your farm
favoriteThing - Change your favorite thing.
catPerson - true or false. Not sure what would happen if you changed this when you already have a dog/cat. If anyone wants to try it out let me know what happens.
maxStamina - Increases the maximum energy you have.
stamina - Sets your energy. If you just increase this value and it is higher than your maximum energy level you will only have that value until it runs out. (BEWARE: Very high numbers of the maxStamina and stamina value will cause the bar to stretch to the top of the screen. If you can deal with that than go for it.)
money - Pretty self explanitory. Set what you want your money to be.
clubCoins - set the amount of Club Coins you have for the casino in the calico desert
hasGreenhouse - Set whether you have the greenhouse built on your Farm. (True or False)
hasRustyKey - Set whether your character has the rusty key to open the sewer. (True or False)
hasSkullKey - Set whether your character has the Skull Key to open the skull door leading to the Skull Caverns in the calico desert (True or False)
hasDarkTalisman - Set whether your character has the Dark talisman (True or False)
hasMagicInk - Set whether your character has Magic Ink (True or False)
health - Set your characters health.
maxHealth - Set your characters maximum health.
hasBusTicket - Set whether your character holds a bus ticket. (True or False)
stardewHero - Set whether your character is a Stardew Valley Hero (True or False)
hasClubCard - Set whether your character has a Club Card to get past the bouncer in the calico desert. (True or False)
canUnderstandDwarves - Set whether your character can understand the Dwarf NPC in the mines. (True or False)
NPC Interest
Now I will show you how to change what each NPCs heart values are towards you.
First thing you need to know if you are using Notepad++ searching for the name of the NPC will come up with 0 matches if you dont uncheck the following in the search box: "Match whole word only" and "Match case". Make sure you check the "Wrap around" box and you should be okay.
Now search for any NPC you want to change the affection of. For this example I will use Leah.
This is what you should be looking for - "Leah160"
Now where it says 160 the number 160 is what you should change. The number most likely won't be 160 for everyone depending on if they are focusing on Leah or not.
The higher the number the more affection she will have for you.
NOTE: 300 would be one heart. 600 two hearts. 900 three hearts. 1200 four hearts and so on.
That's pretty much all I've looked at so far. I'm still trying to analyze more things that you could alter like movement speed but other than that I hope this helps some people.
If I missed anything important or someone wants to add anything feel free to I'd be glad to fix it up :)
